Nutrition during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Personalised nutrition counselling before pregnancy, during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, aligned with your physician's care and your changing needs.

Nutrition during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy and breastfeeding are periods in which nutrient needs change considerably. Nausea, changes in appetite, tiredness and a daily routine reshaped by a new baby can make it harder to keep a balanced diet. In this counselling service we aim to create a practical nutrition plan that takes the specific needs of these periods into account.

Which periods do I support?

Before pregnancy

For women planning a pregnancy, I offer support in reviewing their eating habits, planning adequate intake of key nutrients such as folate, and keeping body weight within a healthy range.

During pregnancy

We prepare a plan according to the energy and nutrient needs of each trimester. We discuss practical dietary suggestions for common issues such as nausea, heartburn and constipation. Weight gain during pregnancy is assessed under the guidance of your obstetrician.

While breastfeeding

We work on practical meal ideas that make the increased fluid and energy needs of breastfeeding manageable alongside tiredness and broken sleep.

What do we talk about in sessions?

  • Meeting needs for nutrients such as iron, folate, calcium, vitamin D, iodine and omega-3 through food,
  • Food safety in pregnancy: foods to avoid and how to prepare food safely,
  • Caffeine intake and fluid intake,
  • Easy-to-prepare snacks and main meal ideas,
  • In situations such as high blood sugar identified during pregnancy, nutrition planning consistent with your physician's recommendations.

Working in line with your physician

Nutrition counselling during pregnancy and breastfeeding does not replace the care of your obstetrician; it complements it. Decisions about supplements are made by your physician. In our sessions, I take your physician's recommendations into account and shape your nutrition plan accordingly.

If you prefer, we can also hold sessions online; many mothers find this option more practical, especially in the first months after birth.

Frequently asked questions

At what stage of pregnancy should I start counselling?

You can start at any stage. If you are planning a pregnancy, starting beforehand can be a good opportunity to review your eating habits.

Do I need to take supplements?

Decisions about supplements are made by your obstetrician. In our sessions, I plan how you can support the nutrients you need through your daily diet.

Can I diet while breastfeeding?

Energy and fluid needs increase during breastfeeding, and strict restrictions are not recommended in this period. We can build a balanced nutrition plan together, in line with your physician's recommendations.
